Periodical.ink will combine all your favorite sources into one beautifully formatted publication, and deliver it to both your inbox and your mailbox.
I’ve been thinking about Periodical.ink for a long time. There is so much beautiful and inspiring writing out there. There is so much to learn from so many great people. So here is my quandary: Y’all are producing so many amazing things, but the only place I can read them is on my stupid dorkulator.
I’m tired of spending time with my devices. I want to read on paper what you’re writing while I am drinking my coffee in the morning. I want this little publication to be beautifully formatted. I want to make notes in the margins. I want to give my copy to my neighbor when I’ve read something I think he’ll appreciate.
Maybe this is anachronistic. I don’t care. I also own a Jeep Scrambler and a scythe. I don’t have a vendetta for phones, modern trucks, and brush cutters, but I’m also not going to let them crowd out the printed word, the manual transmission, and a quiet scything.
If you sign up for Periodical, you’ll see that it has a ways to go. Even so, I’d really appreciate it if you sign up and begin using it. Right now, it’s not much more than a hifalutin RSS reader. That’s why it’s free. At the moment, we’re working on beautifying the print formatting. After that—assuming it’s starting to seem like lots of people are as interested in it as I am—we’ll turn our attention to the production and delivery of printed editions. Then we’ll introduce paid plans and enable revenue sharing for verified sources.
So that’s the plan! I’d appreciate your help in turning it into a reality. You can do that by signing up and adding some sources. You’ll be able to pick from ones that others have already added, and you’ll also be able to add your own. Then we’ll start sending you your very own Periodicals. It will be yours and yours alone. No one else’s will be just like it.
P.S. To build Periodical, I am working with the same good folks who built our bespoke reservation platform for Big Ridge Mountain Club.
